USF Earns Pitcher, Defensive Player and Coaching Staff of the Year Honors From The American

USF picked up three major awards from The American, along with two all-conference first team selections, one selection to the second team and an all-rookie team honoree.


PROVIDENCE, R.I., MAY 8, 2019 – The American regular season champion Bulls received three major awards from the conference in addition to two all-conference first team selections, one all-conference second team pick and one all-rookie team honoree.

Coaching Staff of the Year

Head coach Ken Eriksen, assistant coaches Jessica Moore and Laura Ricciardone and volunteer assistant Kristen Wyckoff were voted The American Coaching Staff of the Year by league coaches. The crew led USF to its second straight American Athletic Conference regular season title, and a 39-17 (17-4 in AAC) regular season slate.

Pitcher of the Year

USF ace, sophomore Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.), was named The American Pitcher of the Year and all-conference first team for the second straight season. Corrick has led the conference in pitching throughout the season, ranking in the top 25 in the nation in several categories. Heading into postseason play, the British National Team pitcher leads The American in four categories: ERA, shutouts, hits allowed per seven innings and victories. Corrick ranks fourth nationally in ERA (.93), eighth in shutouts (10), 16th in hits allowed per seven innings (4.04) and 17th in victories (23). In her freshman campaign, she shared pitcher of the year honors with Tulsa’s Emily Watson.

Corrick also pitched herself into the USF record books this season, currently ranking eighth in program history in career strikeouts as a sophomore with 397. Corrick also ranks seventh in USF softball history in shutouts with 13 in her career, 10 this season.

Defensive Player of the Year

Senior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) has been a mainstay behind the plate for USF, starting all 56 games for the Bulls this season. The American Defensive Player of the Year has recorded 375 putouts and 17 assists from behind the dish. Cook also contributes offensively, batting .269 this season with a team-leading 40 RBI. The Uniontown, Ohio native has recorded 42 hits, including four doubles and five home runs with a grand slam for the game-winner in The American Athletic Conference opener against Tulsa.

All-Conference First Team

USF saw two all-conference first team selections in pitcher Corrick and outfielder AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.). Bruni received her first career all-conference selection and has led the team offensively all season. The Bull’s starting center fielder has a .382 average with 66 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples and two home runs. She has driven in 17 runs and scored 39 times. In the outfield, Bruni has recorded 82 putouts and four assists.

All-Conference Second Team

Junior Brooke Hartman (Port Orange, Fla.) has been a dependable designated hitter for USF, batting .205 with 15 hits this season. She has scored two runs and recorded eight RBI.

All-Conference Rookie Team

Freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) receives her first career American Athletic Conference honors with her selection to The American All-Conference Rookie Team. Sheehan has appeared in 53 of USF’s 56 games this season and has recorded a .241 average. She has notched 32 hits, including two doubles and has driven in eight runs while recording 16 of her own. She is a core part of the Bulls’ outfield with 41 putouts and one assist.
