USF: Coed Cheer Repeats as UCA National Champions

All four Bulls cheer units reach national finals in rare showing.

TAMPA, JAN. 17, 2022 – One year after claiming the program’s first-ever national championship, head coach Gillian Guadagnino’s USF Coed Cheer Team repeated, bringing home the program’s second national championship as all four USF cheer units reached the national finals at the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) College Nationals at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, January 14-16.

The USF Coed Cheer team posted a first-place performance in the Division IA traditional routine competition against 16 teams that qualified for the event. The team, led by Guadagnino and assistant coaches Ronnie Patrick and Savannah Wright, also placed second in the Division IA Game Day competition against 17 qualifying teams.

Meanwhile, USF’s All Girl Cheer Team, led by head coach Sandy Clark and assistant Kelly Budnick, also had a strong meet placing fourth among 10 competing teams in the Division IA Game Day competition and fifth among 13 teams in the Division IA traditional competition.

USF’s cheer squads were among a very small group that had all four units qualify for the national finals.

USF Coed renewed national competition in 2016 following a 13-year hiatus and has progressively climbed up the leaderboard to become a dominant program, finishing 12th (2017), 8th (2018), 4th (2019), 5th (2020) and finally No. 1 in 2021 and again in 2022.
