USF Closes Out Two-Match Road Stretch at No. 4 Clemson

The Bulls look for a marquee win against the No. 4 Tigers.

TAMPA (Sept. 5, 2021) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team closes out its short two-match road stretch on Monday when its travels to the Palmetto State to face No. 4 Clemson. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Riggs Field. The Green and Gold, 1-1-1 on the year, are looking for their second win of the 2021 campaign.

Monday’s match with Clemson will be the first this season against a team in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The Bulls have four opponents on this year’s schedule that are ranked or are receiving votes in last week’s Top 25 poll.

THE SERIES VS. CLEMSON

– USF and Clemson will meet for the first time since a 1-0 overtime win by the Tigers on Sept. 27, 2016 … The Bulls trail in the all-time series, 1-11-2 … USF’s lone win was a 2-1 triumph against Clemson on Oct. 27,1980.

A LOOK AT THE TIGERS

–  Clemson is coming off a 5-0 win at home over South Carolina on Friday night … All goals were scored in the second-half, improving their record to 3-0.

– The Tigers took an advantage of two Gamecock red cards given at the 36th and 41st minute en route to the win.

A LOOK AHEAD

– Following Monday’s match, against Clemson, the Bulls will return home to Corbett Stadium, when they face Stetson on Sept. 10 … Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

– The match against the Hatters is the first of three-straight that the Bulls will play at home … USF will also face North Florida on Sept. 14, on International Night at 7 p.m., before closing out three match stretch against Tulsa on Sept. 18 at 12 p.m. … The Tulsa match will have free admission.

CORBETT ATTENDANCE POLICY

– For the first time since Nov. 9, 2019, Corbett Stadium will return to full-capacity seating for fans, a stretch of 647-days entering USF’s season-opening match against Jacksonville on Aug. 26.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.

Also, Oscar Resano and Brian Schaefer were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team. Head coach Bob Butehorn returns to lead USF in his fifth season on the sidelines.
