USF BULLS: Cardiac Bulls Complete Tulane Sweep, 53-51

Tampa, Fla. –  Mar. 2, 2024 – Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy’s 21 points and eight rebounds helped South Florida women’s basketball  (17-13, 9-8) edge Tulane (10-18, 3-14), 53-51, on Saturday night in the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla. The win marked the Bulls’ second sweep of an opponent this season.

Senior guard Maria Alvarez (10 points) put up double-figures for the third time this season. While Levy recorded her 10th 20-plus point game of the season.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED

The matchup featured five ties and a total of six lead changes. In the fourth quarter, it came down to the wire. Tulsa’s Marta Galic knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game at 51-all, forcing a Bulls timeout. Then with five seconds to go, Levy made a pull-up jumper in the paint that would secure the USF victory, 53-51, as time expired.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • South Florida improved the all-time record against Tulane to 32-20. The Bulls have captured 23 of the last 24 pairings and USF is winners of four straight.
  • The Bulls have now swept two opponents this season, East Carolina and Tulane.
  • Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson (485 career assists) has claimed sole possession of 7th place on the AAC Career Assist Index.
  • Tonight marked the 7th home game of the season with over 3,000 fans and the fourth straight.
  • Alvarez’s 10-point output marked the most she has had in a game this season since scoring 16 points in the win against Charleston Southern (Nov. 30).

UP NEXT

South Florida heads to Dallas, Texas to close out the regular season against SMU on Tuesday, Mar. 5. Tipoff is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET and the game will stream live on ESPN+.

South Florida women’s basketball recorded its 11th 20-win season during the 2022-23 campaign. USF has made 18 postseason tournament appearances and had nine NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 23 seasons.
