USF Baseball: Lane named AAC Player of the Week

Carmine Lane batted .462 last week and helped lead USF to a series win over FAU.

IRVING, Texas (March 22, 2021) – Following a series win over Florida Atlantic, the University of South Florida’s Carmine Lane (Lake Placid) has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Lane hit .462 (6-for-13) with three walks over four games last week. The redshirt freshman recorded one double, a homer, five RBI and five runs score in total. In each of USF’s two wins against FAU, Lane tallied a pair of hits. Lane’s two-run homer in the first inning against FAU on Saturday accounted for the game-winning runs in a 4-0 victory.

Lane currently leads the Bulls in batting average (.393), and ranks second on the team in on-base percentage (.451), hits (24) and runs (16).

Lane joins Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) and Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill), who have previously been named Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as AAC award winners this season.

The Bulls (9-8) have four games slated for this week beginning with North Florida at home on Tuesday, March 23. USF will then travel to No. 6 Texas Tech for a three-game weekend series in Lubbock, Texas.
