USF Athletics: Record 289 Bulls Earn Honor Roll; Extend 3.0 GPA streak to 14 semesters

Bulls extend program-record to 14 straight semesters with over a 3.0 Department Term GPA for USF Student-Athletes;

319 student-athletes, over 70 percent, earn over a 3.0 cumulative GPA;

14 of 17 programs earned a fall GPA over 3.0;

15 programs posted a cumulative team GPA over 3.0

TAMPA, JAN. 21, 2022 – For the second-straight semester, a record number of University of South Florida student-athletes earned Athletics Honor Roll recognition as 289 earned the honor after the recently completed 2021 fall term that saw USF extended its record streak of an annual department grade-point averages over 3.0 to 14 consecutive semesters and seven years. 

Following the compilation of fall grades, USF saw 14 of 17 programs earn a 3.0 team GPA in the fall term and 15 programs log a team cumulative team GPA better than a 3.0. The Bulls’ overall department GPA across nearly 500 student-athletes for the 2021 fall academic semester came in at 3.17 and the cumulative GPA student-athletes stood at 3.21.

Head coach Jeff Scott’s football program contributed to the record Honor Roll recipients with 45 in the fall semester following a program record 57 players recognized in the 2021 spring term. Close behind were softball (28), baseball (25), men’s soccer (25), women’s soccer (23) and sailing (20).

“USF student-athletes continue to meet a high standard for performance in the classroom and set new program records with their achievements,” Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. “I am very proud of our student-athletes commitment and work in the classroom, and of our talented academics staff that continues to provide the guidance and support to ensure our student-athletes achieve their goals.”

Over 70 percent of USF student-athletes earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher following the 2021 fall term, while 180 had over a 3.5 and 22 maintained a 4.0.

USF’s men’s programs averaged a 3.04 cumulative GPA, while the women’s programs posted a 3.44 cumulative GPA.

The women’s golf program, led by head coach Erika Brennan, led all teams with a 3.86 fall term GPA, while the defending AAC champion men’s golf program, led by head coach Steve Bradley, led all men’s programs with a 3.65 fall term GPA.

USF saw 35 student-athletes earn their degree in the fall of 2021 and nearly 500 have done so since 2016-17.

USF also earned an 85 percent Graduation Success Rate, eclipsing 82 percent for the eighth straight year, and had a record five teams earn a perfect 100 percent GSR when the NCAA released that most recent data in the fall.
