USF Athletics: Men’s Soccer Head Coach Butehorn Has Contract Extended

South Florida Men’s Soccer Head Coach Butehorn has contract extended through the 2025 season

Bob Butehorn has tallied 42 wins in his six-year tenure and guided the Bulls to NCAA Tournament appearances in two of the last four years (2019 and 2022).

TAMPA (June 27, 2023) – University of South Florida Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly today announced a contract extension for USF Men’s Soccer Head Coach Bob Butehorn that will extend his leadership of the program through the 2025 season.

“We are excited to extend Coach Butehorn’s leadership of USF men’s soccer through at least the 2025 season,” Kelly said. “Men’s soccer’s thrilling run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season marked the team’s second NCAA appearance in the last four seasons, the program continues to excel in the classroom – producing a record APR score last fall – and the Bulls produced their 26th MLS SuperDraft selection last December. With yet another challenging soccer schedule on deck this fall, we look forward to the opportunity to capture more wins over Top 25-ranked teams and compete for a conference title and in the NCAA Tournament.”

Butehorn guided the Bulls to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022, the program’s 22nd postseason appearance. He also led South Florida to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

The Bulls went 9-7-4 in 2022, including wins over ranked opponents No. 14/21 Tulsa and No. 22/14 Charlotte. USF reached the finals of the AAC Championship Tournament and defeated Hofstra, 4-2, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Corbett Stadium before falling to No. 1 seed Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.

Hired to lead the program before the 2017 season, Butehorn has compiled a 42-41-13 record in six years at USF and owns a career record of 95-63-24.

Butehorn and the Bulls will open the 2023 campaign with three exhibition matches at Corbett Stadium, the first on Thurs., Aug. 10 vs. Southeastern. The 2023 season officially opens on Thurs., Aug. 24 when the Bulls travel to Washington. USF will play eight regular season matches at Corbett Stadium, the first on Fri., Sept. 1 vs. Mercer. The Bulls also welcome Indiana (Sept. 8), Clemson (Sept. 12), Elon (Sept. 17), SMU (Sept. 22), Charlotte (Oct. 8), UAB (Oct. 21) and FAU (Nov. 1) to Tampa.
