USF Athletics: 48 Bulls To Earn Degrees This Weekend

TAMPA, MAY 6, 2022 – USF Athletics congratulates another outstanding group of student-athletes that will receive their degrees during the University of South Florida’s 2022 Spring Commencement Convocation held this weekend at Yuengling Center on the USF campus.

Forty-Eight USF student-athletes are projected to receive their degrees this spring, increasing Athletics’ total number of graduates to over 500 since the 2016-17 school year. Heading into the spring term, the Bulls had posted an overall annual department grade-point average above 3.0 for a program-record six consecutive years and 14 straight semesters.

“The achievement of earning a degree from the University of South Florida is a primary goal for all our student-athletes and the culmination of the hard work and dedication required to handle challenging academic and athletic demands,” Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. “We are very proud of their accomplishments and contributions to our university and wish them the very best as they pursue careers and make positive impacts in communities all over the world.”

Bulls representing 14 athletic teams are slated to receive a degree this weekend, including six members of the baseball team that won a 2021 AAC championship and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional, and five members of the women’s basketball and men’s tennis teams that advanced to 2022 NCAA competition. Five members of the football team are also earning degrees, including three that will return for the 2022 season.

Among some of the notable student-athletes earning degrees are pitcher Jack Jasiak, a 2021 AAC All-Tournament Team standout, guard Demetris Harris, a second-team All-AAC pick, golfer Albin Bergstrom, a two-time All-American and 2022 AAC Men’s Player of the Year, tennis players Rithvik Bollipalli and Ivan Yatsuk, who both earned 2022 All-AAC honors, 2022 All-AAC women’s basketball honorees Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu and Bethy Mununga and 2021 AAC Tournament Outstanding Player Sydni Harvey, softball standouts Meghan Sheehan (a Student-Athlete Advisory Board leader) and Alexis Johns (who is leading the nation in stolen bases), AAC Champion hurdler and All-American Jae’Nisa Heckstall, program record-breaking hurdler Shaneylix Davila, All-American pole vaulter Stone Baker and volleyball libero CC Clausen (No. 2 all-time in career digs at USF).

About USF Athletics
USF Athletics currently sponsors 19 varsity men’s and women’s teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference, which will expand to 21 teams with the recently announced additions of women’s lacrosse (2023-24) and women’s beach volleyball (2024-25). The Bulls’ athletic program began in 1965 and completed its 55th season in 2020-21. Nearly 450 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 26 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, including seven trophies in the 2021 calendar year, and own 135 conference titles in department history. The Bulls have posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for seven straight years and have posted a program-record 14 straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0 as of fall of 2021. USF has had over 500 student-athletes earn their degree since 2016-17.
