The freshman has posted two top-eight finishes this season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida freshman Vasileia Spyrou was named the Southeastern Conference’s Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Spyrou earns this honor after she finished eighth in the women’s 6,000-meter (6k) race at the Blazer Classic in Hoover, Ala. last Friday with a time of 20:28.45. She was the top freshman finisher in the competition.
The freshman has finished eighth in both races of her career as she also earned that position at the FSU XC Invitational on Oct. 2 with a time of 17:12.5 in the women’s 5k race.
“Vasileia (Spyrou) has done a great job of coming in and embracing what it means to uphold the Gator Standard and compete with pride in the Gator uniform,” Assistant Coach Chris Solinsky said. “She has a very bright future and I’m looking forward to being along for the ride.”
The Gators are scheduled to travel to the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30 in Baton Rouge, La. to complete their fall season.
