Florida Announces 2020 Cross Country Schedule
Gators will compete in four meets and host one this season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida announced its 2020 cross country schedule on Monday, highlighted by the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 18, which has been hosted in Gainesville annually since 2005.
The Gators will compete in four meets this season after the Southeastern Conference announced last Thursday that all member schools must compete in a minimum of two meets and no more than three prior to the SEC Championships in Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 30.
UF will begin its four-meet schedule on Sept. 18 at the Mountain Dew Invitational on the Mark Bostick Golf Course beginning at 7:55 a.m. ET, which is slated to be the first athletic competition that any Florida program has participated in since the Gators softball team defeated Florida State, 5-2, on March 11 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Last year, UF swept the Mountain Dew Invitational with both the men’s and women’s teams winning the meet thanks to Jessica Pascoe (1st overall) and Nick Deal (6th overall) leading the charge for their respective squads.
Following its season opener, Florida then travels to the FSU Invitational on October 2 in Tallahassee. The Gators swept the meet last season as well with Pascoe leading the way for the women’s team with a first-place finish while Matt Clark finished third, propelling the men’s team to victory.
UF’s third and final regular season meet of the year will come on October 16 at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The last time Florida competed in Tuscaloosa was on Nov. 10, 2017, at the NCAA South Regional Championships where the men’s team finished 15th while the women’s team finished 22nd.
The 2020 season will culminate at the SEC Championships in Baton Rouge on October 30. The Gators finished in sixth on the men’s side and 11th on the women’s side at last year’s event in Lexington, Ky.
