GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis head coach Roland Thornqvist announced on Wednesday the signing of Rachel Gailis, Anastasia Sysoeva and Sophie Williams to the Gators 2022 class.

All three will head to Gainesville with freshman eligibility for the 2022-23 campaign.

Head Coach Roland Thornqvist on Wednesday’s Signees
“We are thrilled with the three signees today. Sophie, Anastasia and Rachel are perfect for our project in building a championship program. On the court they are very athletic and hard workers. Off the court they are great teammates and believe in our mission to grow people to reach championships. This is as an impressive of a class as we’ve had in a while and they will join an already young and hungry group. I’m looking forward to seeing all of them shine in orange and blue.”

Gailis comes to Florida a highly-touted recruit from Studio City, Calif. Currently, she is the second-ranked recruit on the Babolat national recruiting list and number one on the TennisRPI list. The blue chip boasts a highest-UTR of 11.07 and her top WTA ranking finished at 959. Gailis has competed against her fair share of top-level competition, having twice qualified for the final round of the Cancun 15K tournament.

Originally from Moscow, Russia, Sysoeva joins Gator Nation holding a UTR high of 11.03. No stranger to high-level competition, Sysoeva boasts a highest-WTA ranking of 814 in singles and 838 in doubles and was a finalist in singles competition at the Women’s Tennis Tour Tournament in Cancun during January 2020. She was also the doubles champion at the Women’s 15K in Hilton Head in October 2021. Sysoeva has had the opportunity to compete in an event where she was able to square-off with players ranked 160-600 in WTA rankings, earning victories over five ranked athletes.

Williams, a left-handed hitter, holds a best-UTR of 10.13 and a career-high ITF Junior ranking of 300. The class of 2022 Blue Chip qualified for her first 25K tournament just weeks ago after being down a set and trailing 0-5. During the 2018 competition season, Williams made the finals of the Easter Bowl and also qualified for semi-finals of the 16s Orange Bowl in doubles.
