UF WTN: Briggs, Zein Qualify for ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Final

The Florida duo overcame teammates Dudeney and Berlin in the semi-final match.

LAKE NONA, Fla. – Florida’s upperclassman doubles duo of Carly Briggs and Marlee Zein secured a spot in Monday’s ITA Southeast Regional doubles championship following an impressive performance on Sunday morning.

Briggs and Zein were firing on all cylinders in Sunday’s semi-final, starting their match with fellow Gators Alicia Dudeney and Sydney Berlin with a 6-2 opening frame. Maintaining the momentum, the duo claimed the match following a 6-3 second set, solidifying their spot in the championship match.

The Florida doubles squad will matchup with North Florida’s No. 33-ranked doubles pair, Catherine Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo, on Monday.

Junior Emma Shelton battled with Georgia’s Anna Hertel in the singles quarterfinal, fighting back to tie the match 1-1 after dropping the first set, 1-6. Shelton turned the tables in set two, winning 6-1, before falling in the third frame, 1-6.
