Several Gators earn B-cuts while others crack all-time list
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 7 Florida women’s swimming team defeated UNF, 176-74, on Wednesday at the Ann Marie Rogers Swimming and Diving Pool at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Prior to the meet, the Gators honored 11 seniors on the women’s and men’s teams for Senior Day.
Taylor Ault, Bettina Boszormenyi, Adrianna DeBoer, Gabby Hillis, Ashley McCool, Nikki Miller, Liz Watts, Emma Whitner, Clark Beach, Ethan Beach and Marty Stange were recognized.
McCool, a senior diving transfer from Arizona State, says she made the right choice coming to Gainesville.
“I couldn’t have made a better decision,” McCool said. “I love it here. I’m always honored to be a Florida Gator and I am so proud that I could represent the University of Florida, I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Meanwhile, head women’s swimming and diving coach Jeff Poppell reflected on the senior class and the chance to compete for the first time in two months.
“Today was a big day for us,” Poppell said. “It was an opportunity to honor our seniors at their last home competition as Gators, a season-ending competition for another group of athletes, and a valuable opportunity to fine tune and prepare for the upcoming SEC Championships for several others.”
Poppell also acknowledged that this season has been unlike past years, especially for the senior class.
“I can’t express enough how proud I am of this team and specifically this group of seniors,” Poppell said. “Like so many others around the country, they have endured, sacrificed, and overcome so many obstacles over this past year and in doing so, they have represented the University of Florida in an outstanding manner. I will always remember this special group of student-athletes and be inspired by the unrelenting resiliency that they demonstrated day in and day out.”
Florida won all 14 events on Wednesday against UNF, but more importantly, the Gators produced 22 B-cut times for the NCAA Championships and multiple new additions to the all-time top-10 lists at UF.
Katie Mack, Talia Bates, Amanda Ray and Tylor Mathieu all produced times on Wednesday to place themselves among the all-time Gator greats.
All-Time List Additions
* Katie Mack’s 22.34 in the 50-yard freestyle placed her at No. 9 on the all-time list.
* Talia Bates’ 52.77 in the 100-yard butterfly placed her at No. 9 on the all-time list and her 1:45.05 in the 200-yard freestyle placed her at No. 10 on the all-time list.
* Amanda Ray’s 1:55.26 in the 200-yard butterfly placed her at No. 5 on the all-time list.
* Tylor Mathieu’s 2:12.53 in the 200-yard breaststroke placed her at No. 10 on the all-time list.

* Katie Minnich (53.81) in the 100-yard backstroke.
* Adrianna DeBoer (1:00.66) and Cecilia Porter (1:00.73) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
* Amanda Ray (1:55.26), Nikki Miller (1:58.48) and Kenady Beil (1:58.5) in the 200-yard butterfly.
* Katie Mack (22.34) in the 50-yard freestyle.

* Rosie Zavaros (1:56.38) and Annette Schultz (1:56.49) in the 200-yard backstroke.

* Elise Bauer (4:45.47) and Taylor Ault (4:45.55) in the 500-yard freestyle.

* Vanessa Pearl (4:12.2) and Kathleen Golding (4:12.43) in the 400-yard IM.
Both the women’s and men’s teams are now set to travel to Auburn on Saturday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
“I would like to say a special thank you to the UAA, our medical staff, and team support staff for helping make today’s event possible,” Poppell said. “In addition, we greatly appreciate UNF making the trip over from Jacksonville so that both teams could benefit from the competition, something that has been a rarity this year for most around the country due to the pandemic.”
