Torres becomes just the second current or former Gator golfer to compete in the Olympics (Sandra Gal – Germany – 2016). The 2016 Rio Olympics marked the first Olympics games in 112 years to include golf.

The Gator alumna is one of 60 female golfers to compete in Tokyo, and qualified as the top-rated female from Puerto Rico. The top-15 world-ranked players are eligible for the Olympics, with a limit of four players per country. Beyond the top-15, golfers will be eligible based on the world rankings, with a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not already have two or more golfers among the top-15. Full world rankings can be found here.<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.igfgolf.org_tokyo-2D2020-2Dolympic-2Dgolf-2Drankings&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=kD37K6eW6qztu0z4kIcjcN0mG1NDLOMFZguu91HDHKw&s=15FUY_yNzOJMo5QTJNbxrXyoEq77pJSc0Ims6QMZJJY&e= >

Torres – a Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico native – saw plenty of success during her time as a Gator. She was named the 2016 SEC Golfer of the Year, becoming UF’s first female golfer to receive the award since 1990.

She was also a two-time WGCA All-American (2017 – First Team, 2016 – Honorable Mention) and was named as a First Team Golfweek All-American in 2017.

Torres was a two-time SEC First Teamer and earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2014. She notched five individual titles during her career, including a win at the 2016 SEC Championships.

Competition will span from August 4-7, and consists of a 72 holes of individual stroke play. Scores are cumulative from round to round and the player with the lowest aggregate score wins. The Olympic golf competitions will be held in the Kasumigaseki Country Club, a private course in Saitama. Founded in 1929, the club hosted several professional and amateur tournaments; in 1957 it hosted Japan’s first-ever Golf World Cup.
