UF WGOLF | Gators in Second at SEC Championship

Through 18 holes Florida is in second with three golfers in the top-15.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida women’s golf team started the postseason on a strong note in round one of the SEC Championship on Wednesday.

The Gators are in second place and two shots back from the lead with three golfers in the top-15. Florida shot a team score of 290 (+2) and are above the top-8 cut scheduled for Friday after the completion of 54-holes.

Marina Escobar gave the Orange and Blue a great start with back-to-back birdies to begin her round. She carded just one bogey on the day and is tied for 9th at 1-under.

Late birdies from Maisie Filler and Annabell Fuller pushed the Gators up the leaderboard and out of a tie for 5th. They both shot rounds of 72 (E) and are tied for 13th.

Jackie Lucena added to the late climb with a birdie on 18 (par-5, 478) to move ahead both No. 3 LSU and No. 5 Mississippi State. She is tied for 36th with freshman Karoline Tuttle in T56.
