Both golfers finished top-8 in the Gators Invitation this past weekend.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida women’s golfers Maisie Filler and Paula Francisco earned SEC Weekly honors the league announced Thursday. The awards were based on their play in the Gators Invitational this past weekend.
Filler, the No. 2 ranked golfer in the country, was awarded her fourth SEC Golfer of the Week title after finishing T-3 and has now finished top-5 in her past five contests.
The senior shot a 54-hole score of 207 (-3) and tied for the third-most birdies in the field with 10. Filler’s best round came on Saturday when she shot a four-under 66 which included a bogey-free front nine. The palm Beach Gardens native averaged 2.93 on par-3’s and 4.67 on par-5’s. Filler was also recently named to the first Annika Award Spring Watch List.
Francisco closed out the Gators Invitational T-8, earning her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor. A native of Madrid, Spain, she recorded three straight rounds of even par (70) and lead the field with 42 pars. Francisco shot two bogey-free front nines in rounds one and two of the tournament. Her finish tied for season best and set a new low for tournament score of 210.
The Gators travel to Charleston, South Carolina on Monday to compete in the Briar’s Creek Invitational from March 11-12.
