American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Wednesday, March 6.

Player of the Week

DesiRay Kernal, F, North Texas

Kernal had a monumental performance for the Mean Green to help North Texas clinch a share of The American regular season championship, the first conference championship since 1986 for the Mean Green. Kernal had 25 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Memphis to end the season.

Freshman of the Week

Salese Blow, Fr., G, Wichita State

Blow repeats as Freshman of the Week, scoring 14 points, while dishing out three assists and coming away with three steals in the season finale win over UAB.

Weekly Honor Roll

Malia Fisher, Jr., F, Rice

Fisher had a career game, scoring 30 points and coming down with 12 rebounds in the final regular season game of the season against UTSA.

Evelien Lutje Schipholt, Sr., F, South Florida

Schipholt recorded a double-double in the overtime win against SMU, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Irina Parau, R-Sr., F, Tulane

Parau scored 16 points and came down with 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double in the season finale against Tulsa.

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter helped the Golden Hurricane secure the No. 1 seed and a share of The American regular season title, scoring 19 points in the win against Tulane.

Daniela Abies, So., F, Wichita State

Abies ended the season with a 21 point, 12 rebound performance in the win at UAB.
