UF WGOLF: Escobar Wraps Up National Championship Experience

Marina Escobar concluded her debut on the big stage strong with a birdie on 18.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Florida golfer Marina Escobar wrapped up her National Championship experience on a strong note on Sunday at Grayhawk Golf Club.

She earned one of two automatic qualification spots to play as individual at nationals after finishing T3 in the regional play.

After a bumpy start to round one, Escobar finished strong and went par-par-birdie-par-birdie in the final five holes. She rode that momentum into round two and cut six shots off her round one (80, +8) and posted a 74 (+2) to jump 26 spots.

The native of Almeria, Spain, again kicked off her round strong and went par-birdie-par-birdie en route to her second-straight round of 74 (+2). She made the turn and collected two more on 11 and 14 then capped off her performance on the big stage with a birdie on 18. Escobar recorded five birdies to total 10 on the weekend as she finished T75 and below the cut line to advance for the final round of stroke play tomorrow.
