UF WBK: Zippy Broughton Named to 2024 SEC Community Service Team

The SEC has recognized 14 student-athletes and their community service efforts this year by naming a 2024 Community Service Team for women’s basketball. Florida’s Zippy Broughton is among those named to the accomplished list.

Birmingham, Ala. – In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for women’s basketball for the 20232-24 season. Among the 14 chosen is Florida’s Zippy Broughton.

This marks the 26th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.

In the past year Zippy Broughton has had a helping hand in several areas of the Gainesville community, volunteering in schools, churches, at food banks, and visiting the Ronald McDonald House. Broughton spent time and got to know students in five different schools this year: Oak Hall School, Meadowbrook Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary, Caring & Sharing Learning School, and Archer Elementary School.

During her time within the Gainesville community, Zippy has conducted mentoring programs, helped organize pep rallies, and taken part in parades. Around the holiday’s Broughton has delivered sneakers to students in need, cooked meals for children in care at the Ronald McDonald House, and has matched up to be a mentor for a local student who needed a positive role model. Overall Broughton has brought numerous individuals joy in underrepresented areas and holds an undeniable positive impact on all those she meets.
