UF WBK: Lavender Briggs to Miss Remainder of Season Due to Injury

The junior was Florida’s leading scorer and rebounder through 14 games.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior standout guard Lavender Briggs will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign due to a stress reaction in her shin, head coach Kelly Rae Finley announced Friday afternoon.

Before the end of her season, Briggs was leading the Gators with 12.5 points per game, as well as 5.6 rebounds per outing. The junior also boasts 961 career points, just 39 away becoming the 27th member of the 1,000-point club at Florida.

“I am saddened for Lavender after seeing all the work she put in to come back this season,” Finley said. “She is obviously a key component for our team, and we will miss what she brings to the court. We want her to do what’s best in both the short and long term, not only for her basketball career, but for her quality of life.”

For her career, the Provo, Utah native averages 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. During the 2020-21 season, Briggs averaged 19.4 points per game over the course of 18 games, marking one of the best seasons in program history, ending with the fourth-highest points per game average ever by a Gator.

The former five-star signee and All-SEC honoree has started in all 61 games that she’s played for Gators.

The Gators will continue SEC play on Sunday when they travel to College Station, Texas, for a matchup with No. 25 Texas A&M.
