UF WBK: Jackie Moore Returns to Gainesville as Assistant to the Head Coach

Moore spent the previous 10 seasons at Arizona State, serving as the associate head coach for her last five years.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s basketball head coach Kelly Rae Finley has announced the addition of Jackie Moore to the staff as an assistant to the head coach.

“We are incredibly blessed to have Jackie join our staff,” Finley said. “Her experience, knowledge of the game and passion for connecting people will make an immediate impact on our program. Jackie has an infectious personality and a desire to uplift those around her. Born and raised in Florida, we are excited to welcome Jackie home as a part of Gator Nation!”

Moore, a native of Panama City, Fla., joins the Gators after spending the previous 10 seasons at Arizona State, serving as the associate head coach during her final five.

“I am beyond excited to join Kelly Rae Finley, her staff and Gator Nation in our quest to win championships at the University of Florida,” Moore said. “Kelly’s knowledge of the game, enthusiasm and ability to motivate and connect with her players was on full display last season. I am looking forward to my partnership with Kelly while bringing my coaching experience to UF women’s basketball to continue building a winning culture and tradition.”

“It goes without saying that Florida is one of the most premiere athletic departments in the country. Athletic Director Scott Stricklin’s commitment and support for women’s sports at the university has not gone unnoticed. Growing up in the state of Florida, I’ve been a Gator fan my entire life, and now it’s official. Let’s get to work Gator Nation.”

Originally joining the Arizona State staff on June 14, 2012, Moore boasts more than 20 years of coaching experience having also served as an assistant at UMass, Boston College, Miami (Fla.) and Nevada. During her time with ASU, Moore’s instruction and recruiting were instrumental in ASU’s run of a school record seven consecutive 20-win seasons (2014-20). That stretch included a school record six-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances – ASU was preparing for its seventh straight trip to NCAAs before the cancelation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament due to COVID-19 – and a share of the 2016 Pac-12 regular season championship.

Prior to her time at Arizona State, Moore spent three seasons (2005-08) at the University of Nevada as an assistant coach. During her time with Nevada, where she served as the recruiting coordinator, the Wolf Pack made their first postseason appearance in school history during the 2006-07 campaign.

Moore also had a brief stint at Miami (Fla.), acting as the co-recruiting coordinator while organizing scouts and developing perimeter players in helping the Hurricanes reach the NCAA Tournament in 2004.

In 2002-03, Moore served on a coaching staff that helped guide Boston College to its first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in school history as they finished the season with a 22-9 record.

Before her stint at Boston College, Moore spent three years as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts. With the Minutewomen, she was responsible for the team’s recruitment of prospective student-athletes, scheduling and scouting opponents and supervision of the team’s pre- and post-season conditioning programs.

For six seasons (1993-99), Moore was the head coach at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla. Moore began her coaching career at her alma mater, Armstrong State College in Savannah, Ga., where she was an assistant for two seasons.

A four-year starter at guard – two years a Santa Fe CC and two years at Armstrong State – Moore earned her B.A. in Psychology from Armstrong State in 1991. The Panama City, Fla., native added a master’s degree in Health Science from Georgia Southern University in 1993.

What They’re Saying About Jackie

“One thing I love to share about Jackie is that she never, in 10 years, had a bad day. She always shows good energy and gives everything that she has every day. She’s an incredible mentor and our student-athletes loved her, not just because she’s a great cook, either, but because she’s a great person. Jackie bought-in to our vision of how we wanted to be there for our student-athletes and how we wanted our program to operate. The experience that she brings will help Kelly and her staff with anything they need. She’s a great coach, great at scouting and has experience in all areas, so this is a perfect position to help the staff. On top of that, Jackie is an outstanding recruiter, she’s a relationship person and it shows in her successes and body of work.”
– Charli Turner Thorne, Arizona State Head Coach from 1996-2022

“I have known Jackie for a long time and have found her to be a coach who truly cares about others first and foremost.  She is a great person who is in coaching for all the right reasons; most importantly to help athletes reach their goals and dreams in life and on the court. She has been a big part of winning programs at the highest level and knows what it takes on a day-to-day basis to become your best as a team. This is a very good hire for Florida as she is not only a very talented coach, but also a true team player who will become an integral part of the Gators future success.
