TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida women’s basketball is heading to Tallahassee, Fla., on Wednesday to face-off with Florida State for the Sunshine Showdown Presented by Fresh From Florida.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra with Shawn Davison and Melissa Bruner on the call. Kyle Crooks and Brittany Davis will handle radio responsibilities on 98.1FM/850AM WRUF.

THE SERIES
The Gators and Seminoles meet for the 79th time on Wednesday evening, with UF holding a 43-35 lead in the series. Last season the Gators snapped a five-game losing skid to FSU, claiming a 69-55 victory in the O’Dome.

LAST TIME OUT
Florida was dominant again, defeating UNC Asheville, 86-40, after forcing 35 turnovers in addition to tallying 20 steals. Ra Shaya Kyle earned her third-career double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds while Leilani Correa scored 17 points.

‘CHOMP DOWN’ DEFENSE
After the opening two games of the 2022-23 season, the Gators find themselves as one of the elite defensive teams in the nation. Through the two games, UF has forced 63 turnovers in addition to recording 38 steals. The 38 steals recorded over the first two games of the season is the most in a two-game span since recording 39 in back-to-back games against Florida A&M and Southeastern Louisiana in 2016, while the 63 forced turnovers are the most since that same period when they recorded 69 in those two matchups. The 19 steals per game rank first in the SEC and fourth nationally, while the 31.50 turnovers forced per game are also atop the SEC and sixth nationally. The turnover margin of 16.00 is first in the conference and ninth in the NCAA.

OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Following the opening two games, the Gators have outscored their opponents by 74 total points, the largest two-game difference since outscoring Kennesaw State and Savannah State by 92 in 2015. The 74-point advantage over the first two games also marks the largest scoring difference over the opening two contests in school history.

BABY GATOR
The Gators family grew by one on Nov. 11, when then No. 19 recruit in the nation, Lailia Reynolds, signed with Florida. A 6-foot-1 five-star guard from PG County, Md., Reynolds comes to Gainesville after competing for Shabach Christian Academy. During the 2022 campaign, Reynolds helped lead Shabach Christian Academy to the GEICO National Championship game while averaging 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. During the fall of 2022, Reynolds has already shown her abilities, finishing as the Most Valuable Player for the 2022 Rose Classic Fall League. She has also been named the captain for the 2022-23 season at Shabach Christian Academy.

IN-STATE BATTLES
The 2022-23 schedule is unique for the Gators in that it features matchups with four schools in the state of Florida. UF will meet Florida A&M (Nov. 7), Florida State (Nov. 16), Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 18) and Miami (Dec. 11) this year, marking the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Gators have played four in-state schools. Florida has not captured four victories over in-state schools in the same season since the 2003-04 season when they defeated South Florida, Florida State, Bethune-Cookman and Central Florida.
