UF W S&D | Gators Claim Three Top-16 Finishes on Day 2 of NCAA Championships

ATLANTA – The No. 14 Gators finished Day 2 of the NCAA Championships with three All-American honors and currently sit in 10th place with 62 points.

The three All-American accolades came from Maha Amer placing seventh on the 1-meter springboard, Tylor Mathieu finishing 11th in the 500 free and the 200 free relay of Ekaterina Nikonova, Talia Bates, Katie Mack and Micayla Cronk placing ninth.

Mathieu earned Honorable Mention All-American status with a swim of 4:38.62 in the consolation final of the 500 free. This is the first All-American honor for the junior and she improved upon her standings in program history, moving from 10th to seventh all-time.

Amer garnered her first All-America honors at Florida after finishing seventh in the 1-meter final with a score of 316.70.

The 200 free relay team nabbed Honorable Mention All-American honors with a school record performance of 1:27.16. Bates led the way with a split of 21.53 on the second leg, followed by a 21.65 swim from Katie Mack. Cronk anchored the relay with a time of 21.82, while Nikonova led off the event with a split of 22.16.

500 free prelim
In the prelim session of the 500 free, Mathieu led the way with a ninth-place finish, swimming a time of 4:39.07 to earn her spot in the final.

Anna Auld and Elise Bauer finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively, with swims of 4:44.37 and 4:44.56 on Thursday morning. Amanda Ray placed 54th overall with a time of 4:48.75, while Leah DeGeorge rounded out the Gators in the field with a 56th-place finish (4:50.03).

200 IM prelim
Kathleen Golding was the lone Gator to compete in the 200 IM, finishing 37th overall with a time of 1:57.50.

50 free prelim
Florida had two women swim in the 50 free prelim, with Ekaterina Nikonova leading the way with a 30th-place finish (22.21). Talia Bates posted a swim of 22.27 to finish 33rd overall in the event.

1-meter prelim
Amer put together a solid six-dive performance during the preliminary session, finishing sixth overall with a score of 313.90 to advance to the final and earn All-American honors.

Friday will feature nine Gators competing, including four in the 400 IM and three in the 200 free.
