Marlie Monserez tabbed to Second Team; Lauren Forte and Thayer Hall grab Honorable Mention nod
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gators garnered All-America accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as the organization announced Wednesday.
Marlie Monserez found herself on the Second Team, while both Lauren Forte and Thayer Hall grabbed a spot on the Honorable Mention squad.
This was the second All-America honor for both Forte and Monserez, while Hall has earned a spot on one of the four teams each year during her time in the Orange and Blue.
With these three honors, Florida has now racked up 45 players with 130 All-America honors since the 1991 season.
The Gators finished the 2021 season with a 22-9 record overall, making the 28th program appearance in the Regional Semifinal.
A breakdown of each honoree’s accolades are below:
Marlie Monserez
* Second All-American honor (2021 – Second Team; 2020 – Honorable Mention)
* 2021 AVCA All-Region selection
* 2021 All-SEC honoree
* Finished second in the SEC and 11th nationally in assists per set
* Recorded 11 double-doubles on the year, good for second on the team
* Posted over 40 assists in 11 matches this season
* Finished first on the team in assists (1182), second in digs (277), third in service aces (23), fourth in blocks (60.0) and sixth in kills (96)
* Recorded a career-high 23 digs against LSU on Oct. 10
* Her 42 assists against both Ole Miss (Oct. 2) and South Carolina (Nov. 21) are the third-highest total in a three-set match this season in the SEC
* Dished out 56 assists against Minnesota on Sept. 5, the second-highest total in a four-set match by an SEC setter this season
* Five-time SEC Setter of the Week during the 2021 campaign
* Two-time SEC Overall Player of the Week during the 2021 campaign
* Finished her career in the Orange & Blue fifth in program history with 3,680 assists
* She is only the second setter in the rally-scoring era to record at least 3,500 assists for the Gators (Angie McGinnis – 2004-07)
Lauren Forte
* Second All-American honor (2020 – Third Team; 2021 – Honorable Mention)
* 2021 All-Region selection
* 2021 All-SEC honoree
* Ranked 17th in the nation and second in the conference in hitting percentage
* Finished first on the team in hitting percentage (.401) and blocks (94.0), fourth in kills (176) and points (229)
* Reached double-digit kills in five matches over the course of the 2021 campaign
* Hit over .300 in 20 matches this season, including a season-high .667 against Minnesota (Sept. 5), Auburn (Nov. 17) and Florida A&M (Dec. 2)
* Her 10 blocks against Arkansas on Nov. 12 is the third-highest total in a match across the SEC this season
* Finished her career with a .422 hitting percentage at Florida
Thayer Hall
* Fourth AVCA All-American Honor (2019 – Third Team; 2018, 2020, 2021 – Honorable Mention)
* 2021 AVCA All-Region selection
* 2021 All-SEC honoree
* Recorded eight double-doubles on the year
* Reached double-digit kills in 18 matches over the course of the 2021 campaign
* Tallied at least 10.0 points in 20 matches this season
* Finished second on the team in kills (289), third in assists (49), fourth in digs (260) and service aces (21) and seventh in blocks (48.0)
* Finished her tenure as a Gator in the Top-10 in two categories:
* She finishes 10th in program history with 1,298 kills
* She finishes fifth in program history with 3,557 attacks
* Earned AVCA All-America honors during each season of her career
