After her first two starts for the Gators, Nnedi Okammor earned her first SEC weekly award
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After helping Florida to a 2-0 weekend against Alabama, freshman Nnedi Okammor was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Monday afternoon.
The middle blocker earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after her monster performance at the net against the Crimson Tide – the first weekly honor of her career.
The Carrollton, Texas native had two breakout matches in her first two starts for Florida, averaging 2.33 blocks per set. On Oct. 30, the freshman recorded a then-career-high five blocks with two kills.
She then shattered that mark on Oct. 31, posting nine blocks in the match. That mark is the sixth-highest total in a three-set match in program history and she helped lead the Gators to a three-set program-record 19.5 blocks.
Okammor sits atop the conference in blocks per set, averaging 2.14 blocks per set.
The Gators have come upon their scheduled bye week, but will return for the second half of the fall season on Nov. 11 at South Carolina.
