GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 22 Florida volleyball team (9-5, 3-1 SEC) swept the Ole Miss Rebels (12-2, 1-2 SEC) to kick off the series on Saturday afternoon.

The Gators took the first set 25-19, then followed up with a decisive 25-14 victory in the second. Florida secured the match with a 25-16 win in the final frame.

Florida’s offensive attack was led by Thayer Hall, who posted 14 kills on the afternoon with a .375 clip. T’ara Ceasar pitched in 12 kills of her own, while Lauren Forte and Merritt Beason registered 11 and nine kills, respectively.

Marlie Monserez dished out 42 assists in the match, leading the team to a .444 clip.

The Gators held the Rebels to just a .107 clip in the match, the lowest output for Ole Miss this season. Florida notched seven blocks at the net, led four from Lauren Dooley and three from Hall.

Elli McKissock and Ceasar each recorded a team-high 13 digs to lead the backcourt defense. Monserez added 10 for her fifth double-double of the season, while Beason and Hall recorded seven and six, respectively.

The Gators are right back in action on Sunday to close out the series against the Rebels. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. on the SEC Network +.

How It Happened

  *   The first set started tight between the two teams, but with the score tied 6-all, Florida put together a 6-2 run to force a timeout by the Rebels. Out of the break, the Gators got up as many as six at 16-10 before Ole Miss began chipping away. The Rebels got to within three at 16-13 to force Florida to use its first timeout of the frame. The Gators continued to keep Ole Miss at a distance, holding at least a three-point advantage through the rest of the set, taking it 25-19.
     *   Florida notched 19 kills on .447 clip, with Hall posting a team-high six kills in the frame. Ceasar and Forte each followed with four kills apiece.
  *   Once again, the start of the set was a back-and-forth battle between the two squads. With the frame tied 11-11, Florida went on a 4-0 run behind the serves of Ceasar to take the 15-11 lead into the media timeout. Out of the break, the Gators closed out the second set on a 10-3 run to go up 2-0 in the match.
     *   Florida hit a stellar .483 in the second frame, while holding Ole Miss to just a .029 clip. Forte and Hall each posted five kills, while Ceasar added three.
  *   With the third set tied 5-5, Ole Miss put together a 4-0 run to take the 9-5 advantage and force Florida to use its first timeout. Out of the timeout, the Gators put together a 16-3 run behind the serves of Monserez and McKissock to take the commanding 21-13 lead. Florida cruised to the 25-16 win to clinch the match and move to 3-1 in the SEC.
     *   Beason and Ceasar each posted a team-high five kills in the third set, while the team hit .406 overall.
