UF T&F: UF Track and Field Set to Begin Championship Season at SEC Outdoors

UF enters championship season with five NCAA top-5 times and marks, including one that leads the nation

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Florida track and field will begin championship season as they travel to Bryan-College Station, Texas to compete in this year’s SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday, Friday and Saturday inside E.B Cushing Stadium.

The men’s and women’s teams, which rank eighth and tenth respectively on the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field national polls<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.ustfccca.org_team-2Drankings-2Dpolls-2Dcentral&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=Msy2ePucYx2Bxjdi15qLGYL3zOSI4VTs1JxODqTaQtE&s=IuvtgAiwT8RH73FlD5ESyXZGP7pTIfGE6bEJNs3QFz8&e= >, will enter the championship meet with 13 NCAA top-10 times and marks, including five that rank among the five-best in the nation and one that leads the NCAA.

Thrower Thomas Mardal, who leads the nation in the hammer throw with a personal-record mark of 76.18 meters (249 feet, 11 inches), will look to earn his second-career outdoor conference title after winning his first in 2019. Mardal has led a historic season in 2021, having been crowned SEC and national champion in the weight throw, and setting several school records both indoors and outdoors.

Redshirt freshman Joseph Fahnbulleh, who ranks in the top 10 nationally in the 100 and 200 meters, will headline both events for the Gators. Fahnbulleh ranks third in the nation and in the world in the 200 meters with a personal-record time of 20.10 [+0.9], while sitting at No. 7 on this year’s NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying list for the 100 meters with a time of 10.08 [+3.6].

Clayton Brown, Claire Bryant and Natricia Hooper will headline the jumps for UF.

Brown, who ranks fourth nationally in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump, will compete in the high jump on Friday and the triple jump on Saturday. Meanwhile Bryant and Hooper, who both rank sixth nationally, will represent the Gators in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.

Another top contender in this year’s conference championship is redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Wilkinson. The Wynnewood, Pa. native will run the 800 meters, in which she ranks fifth nationally, and the 1,500 meters.

Florida’s 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays teams will also make an appearance this week. The women’s 4×400 team ranks fourth in the NCAA (3:27.50), while the men’s 4×100 recorded the sixth-fastest time (38.89) in the nation earlier this season.

Other top 10-ranked Gators to watch this weekend include Ryan Willie (8th – 400m), Taylor Manson (8th – 400m) and Denzel Villaman (9th – 400mH).
