Throwers and Jumpers Headline Day One at the FSU Relays

Florida took part in the hammer throw, shot put, long jump, and high jump on the first day of the FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, FL. –  The Florida Gators throwing and running contingent led the way on day one of the FSU Relays, placing ten finishers in the top-6 of their event. Two Gators finished on the podium, Logan Montgomery finished second in the men’s shot put and Corvell Todd placed third men’s high jump. In his Gators outdoor debut, Montgomery threw a new personal best (17.86m/58’7.25″) in his Gators outdoor debut. Todd (2.12m/6’11.5″) has now finished in the top-5 of every high jump competition he has competed in as a Gator.

Imani Washington made her collegiate debut, finishing fifth in both the hammer throw (52.18m/171’2″) and shot put (14.35m/47’1″).

Florida enters day two, having recorded four new personal bests. Two of the personal bests came in men’s shot put by Logan Montgomery and Calvin Bostic (16.91m/55’5.75″) and two in men’s long jump by Jordan McCants (7.36m/24’1.75″) and Michael Holloway II (7.33m/24’0.75″).

Tomorrow the Gators start day two of the FSU Relays at 10:30 a.m. ET as Thea Jensen, Da’Moni Kelly, and Akari Isaac compete in the women’s discus competition, followed by men’s discus featuring Calvin Bostic and Logan Montgomery. The men and women will also compete in the 100m, 800m, 1500m, and javelin competitions. The men will compete in triple jump and 110m hurdles and the women will compete in the 100m hurdles.

Hammer Throw

Women- In her collegiate debut Imani Washington finished sixth in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 52.18m/171’2″.

Shot Put

Men-Both Logan Montgomery and Calvin Bostic finished the men’s shot put competition with new personal bests. Montgomery finished second with a throw of 17.86m/58’7.25″, 0.56m farther than the third-place finisher, Ethan Richter from Auburn. Bostic placed sixth with a mark of 16.91m/55’5.75″.

Women- Three Gators finished in the top-6 of the women’s shot-put competition. Thea Jensen finished fourth (14.86m/48’9″) in her first outdoor competition on her quest to return to the NCAA Championships after qualifying last season in shot put. Imani Washington finished fifth in her first collegiate shot put competition with a mark of 14.35m/47’1″. She also finished fifth in the hammer throw. Da’Moni Kelly made her Gator outdoor debut, earning sixth (14.32m/46’11.75″). Sterling Lester placed twelfth with a mark of 10.92m/35’10”.

Long Jump

Men- The trio of Jordan McCants (7.36m/24’1.75″), Michael Holloway II (7.33m/24’0.75″), and Jalen Chance (7.28m/23’10.75″) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. McCants and Holloway II finished with new personal bests in the long jump.

High Jump

Men- Corvell Todd finished on the podium, placing third in the men’s high jump competition with a top clearance of 2.12m/6’11.5″.
