UF T&F: Manson Finishes Seventh at U.S. Olympic Trials, Stark Exits During Semifinals

Taylor Manson and Grace Stark closed their 2021 seasons Sunday

EUGENE, Ore. – Florida’s Taylor Manson and Grace Stark closed their 2021 track and field campaigns Sunday evening during the final and semifinal rounds of their respective events at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials inside Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

In the final round of the 400 meters, Manson finished seventh with a new personal-record time of 50.79 seconds. The redshirt junior became the third-fastest 400 meters runner in school history, but did not make the U.S. Olympic Team as only the top three finishers will head to Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Stark closed her first outdoor campaign as a collegian with a 14th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles semifinals, missing the finals. Stark, who tied the school record earlier this season and finished fourth at NCAA Outdoors, clocked a time of 12.79 second [+1.3].

The action continues Monday with Gator Greats Cory McGee and Will Claye competing for a chance to make the U.S. Olympic Team.

McGee will run in the final round of the 1,500 meters at 8:05 p.m. ET, while Claye will appear in the triple jump at 7:40 p.m. ET.

Florida currently has eight Gators and alumni set to compete at the trials, including reigning world champion Grant Holloway, American long jump champion Marquis Dendy and school record holder in the long jump (indoors) Claire Bryant, among others.

See below for a complete list of Gators expected to compete in the remainder of this year’s U.S. Olympic Trials, along with results from day three.

The top three finishers in each event, so long as they have the Olympic qualifying standard, will automatically earn spots on Team USA for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The games were slated to take place last year but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tokyo Games are scheduled to open on July 23.
