UF T&F: Four Gators Punch Ticket to NCAA Championships; Ten Advance to Subsequent Round of Competition

Malcolm Clemons, Sean Dixon-Bodie, Will Gross IV and Abraham Sargent will all represent the Gators in Eugene, Oregon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The first of four days at the NCAA East Preliminaries has concluded and the Gators Track & Field program have advanced four athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon and ten more to the next rounds of their respective events.

Malcolm Clemons (Long Jump), Sean Dixon-Bodie (Long Jump), Will Gross IV (Hammer Throw) and Abraham Sargent (Javelin Throw) have secured their spots in Eugene with place finishes of twelfth or higher in each of their events.

Joshua Brockman (110m H), Robert Gregory (200m), Reheem Hayles (400m), Parvej Khan (1500m), Ryan Maseman (800m), Wanya McCoy (100m & 200m), Jenoah McKiver (400m), Jevaughn Powell (400m), Rios Prude Jr. (400m) and Ashton Schwartzman (400m) all finished within the top-24 in their listed events and for that reason will compete in the quarterfinal rounds of said events on Friday.

Outlined below is how the athletes advanced and performed during Thursday’s action.

Men’s Hammer Throw
Will Gross IV was the first Gator to punch his ticket to Eugene, Oregon. The graduate student from Newfane, New York advances to the NCAA Outdoor Championship for the second consecutive year, first at the University of Florida. Competing in the Hammer Throw, Gross IV unleashed a throw of 66.43m/217’11” which placed him eighth in the East Preliminaries. He is set to become the first Gator to compete in the Hammer Throw at the National Championship since Thomas Mardal in 2021.

Men’s Javelin Throw
Sargent booked his ticket for his first-ever NCAA Outdoor Championship with his best performance at an NCAA Prelim in his collegiate career. His mark of 68.73m/225’6” landed him in ninth place and made him the first Gator to qualify for NCAA Outdoors since Mark Porter (2022) to qualify in the Javelin.

Men’s Long Jump
The Gators qualified two athletes for the Long Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Dixon-Bodie and Clemons finished seventh and twelfth at the East Preliminaries with marks of 7.59m/24’11” and 7.51m/24’7.75”. This marks the second consecutive year that Clemons has made the NCAA Championship in the event and the first time Dixon-Bodie has qualified in the Long Jump.

Men’s 110m H
Brockman advanced to the quarterfinals of the 110m H after finishing fourth in his heat and recording a time of 13.91. He, along with 23 other athletes, are scheduled to compete for a trip to the semifinals in Eugene on Friday.

Men’s 1500m
The SEC 1500m Champion, Khan, finished as the top qualifier in the 1500m on Thursday with a facility record time of 3:41.10. The Indian national will continue action on Friday.

Men’s 100m
McCoy advanced to the first of two quarterfinals after placing seventh overall and first in his heat in the 100m dash. A time of 10.29 earned the sophomore an auto-bid to the next round on Friday.

Men’s 400m
All five Gators that participated in the first round of the 400m will appear in the quarterfinals on Friday night. Prude Jr., Powell and Hayles all received auto-qualifying bids to the next round as they all finished top-three in their respective heats. Schwartzman and McKiver were two of the six additional qualifiers. Prude Jr. was the top qualifier of the group as he recorded a personal best run of 45.51 which was second among all competitors.

Men’s 800m
Maseman was the lone Gator to advance to the 800m quarterfinals as the junior recorded a personal record run of 1:47.72, which stood as the fourth-best time of the entire field. The Plainfield, Illinois native will continue action on Friday.

Men’s 200m
Both Gregory and McCoy have reached the quarterfinals of the 200m and did so by running the exact same time, down to the thousandth of a second. Both of the Gator sprinters recorded runs of 20.334 as they both secured auto-qualifying bids courtesy of the placement in their respective heats.
