UF TF: Florida Travels 9 Distance Runners to the Virginia Challenge

Portions of the meet will be streamed on ACC Network Extra

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – This week the Florida Gators Track and Field team travels north to Charlottesville, Virginia to take part in the Virginia Challenge. The Gators send a contingent of five male and four female distance runners to compete against the field of 69 teams.

On the men’s side, five teams competing are ranked in the top-25, while in the women’s competition four teams are ranked in the top-25 with three positioned in the top-10 in the most recent rankings.

At the Tom Jones Memorial last week, the Gators earned two event titles. On Friday, Jasmine Moore won yet another horizontal jump title. Moore earned first in the long jump invite, her first competition since winning the NCAA Indoor long and triple jump titles, with a mark of 6.98m/22’10.75″ which would have been a school record had it had been wind legal. Liina Winborn earned Florida’s other title on the second day of the competition. Winborn pulled away in the final laps of the 3000m, to win her first ever event title (9:54.38). The Finland native came in over 10 seconds ahead of the runner up, Ramat Jimoh of Mississippi State.

So far in the 2023 outdoor season, the Gators have recorded 58 new outdoor or overall personal bests. Forty-four of these career performances have come on the track, and fourteen were in the field.
