UF S&D: No. 6 Florida Men’s Swimming and Diving Claims Georgia Invite Victory

No. 9 women’s swimming and diving place second

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 6 Florida men’s swimming and diving claimed first at the Georgia Invite, outlasting No. 4 Georgia, No. 15 Auburn, No. 19 Florida State, and Georgia Tech, winning by over 100 points.

No. 9 Florida women’s swimming and diving went back-and-forth, leading the invite for a period of time on the final day, before securing a second-place finish ahead of two ranked opponents.

Aleksas Savickas and Joshua Liendo both placed two of the fastest times in program history on the concluding day. Savickas swam the second-fastest 200 breast time, while Liendo added to his impressive collegiate honors with the second-fastest 100 free time, behind Caeleb Dressel.

Finals:
Women’s 1650 Free
In the only morning final of the day, Anna Auld tallied a 16:11.64 for a fourth-place finish and 15 points towards the team score. Camille DeBoer finished not far behind her in sixth at 16:24.42, with Tylor Mathieu finishing seventh with a 16:25.94. Elise Bauer came in eighth at 16:29.96, and Leah DeGeorge was in 10th.

Men’s 1650 Free
Alfonso Mestre posted a second-place finish at 14:54.44, with Eric Brown in fourth at 14:56.86. Giovanni Linscheer, Jake Mitchell, and Jack VanDeusen finished eight-nine-ten, all with B-cut times. The Gators finished with nine B-cut times in the event.

Women’s 200 Back
Mabel Zavaros claimed top spot on the podium, touching the wall in 1:54.27 to claim first, while Zoe Dixon placed eighth in the A-final with a 1:57.87.

Men’s 200 Back
Cameron Abaqueta finished second in the C-final, 18th overall with a 1:45.14.

Women’s 100 Free
Tallying the top-four slots in the event, Florida dominated the event, led by Talia Bates’ 47.75 time and first place finish. Micayla Cronk was second at 48.28, Ekaterina Nikonova third with 48.56, and Katie Mack in fourth at 48.60. All four recorded B-cut times.

Men’s 100 Free
It was a clean sweep in the men’s 100 free, led by freshman sensation Joshua Liendo, who with a 41.70 time now has the second-fastest time in school history, only trailing Caeleb Dressel’s 39.90. Macguire McDuff posted a 41.95 in second place, a time that puts him in the top-five in Florida history. Julian Smith closed out the top-three with a 42.08, while Eric Friese and Alberto Mestre both put up B-cut times.

Women’s 200 Breast
Tylor Mathieu and Olivia Peoples both registered B-cut qualifying times in an event that featured eleven times under 2:14.00.

Men’s 200 Breast
Aleksas Savickas joined the Florida record books, swimming the second-fastest 200 breast in school history at 1:51.29 for an A-cut qualifying time. Kevin Vargas finished in third with an impressive 1:55.06, while Dillon Hillis secured a B-cut time of 1:56.86 in the B-final.

Women’s 200 Fly
Amanda Ray finished second at 1:56.10, shaving nearly a second off her prelim time, while Allie Piccirillo posted a 1:58.60 for sixth place.

Men’s 200 Fly
Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero finished first in the event at 1:42.30, with Jace Crawford behind him at 1:43.95 in third. Mason Laur placed seventh at 1:46.04.

Women’s Platform Diving
Elettra Neroni posted a top-three finish with a score of 257.60, with Carina Lumia and Caroline Pagac finishing ninth and tenth. Casey Greenberg finished 13th at 200.55.

Men’s Platform Diving
Elisha Dees continued an impressive start to his collegiate career, placing third with a 350.30. Skip Donald finished fifth with a 341.35, while Anton Svirskyi scored a 312.80. Brandon Wegner finished 13th with a 261.30.

Women’s 400 Free Relay:
Florida’s A team of Ekaterina Nikonova, Talia Bates, Micayla Cronk, and Katie Mack put up a 3:12.91 to finish with an A-cut time, and over a second ahead of the field. The school-record holding team was just over a second off of their program record from last season.

Men’s 400 Free Relay:
The team of Macguire McDuff, Joshua Liendo, Adam Chaney, and Eric Friese completed the 400 free relay sweep for Florida, swimming a 2:47.94 A-cut qualifying time, the eighth-fastest in school history.

Prelims:
Women’s 200 Back
Mabel Zavaros, third, and Zoe Dixon, sixth, both qualified for the A-final in the opening event of the final day.

Men’s 200 Back
Just stretching himself out, Adam Chaney finished 15th at 1:45.74, qualifying for the B-final.

Women’s 100 Free
The Gators posted a sweep, led by B-cut finishes by Talia Bates, Katie Mack, and Ekaterina Nikonova. Micayla Cronk finished in sixth, with four Florida swimmers set for the A-final.

Men’s 100 Free
Joshua Liendo and Macguire McDuff went one-two, with Liendo posting a 42.40 to lead the field. The Gators posted five B-cut times, and advanced four into the A-final.

Women’s 200 Breast
Tylor Mathieu posted the top time for the Gators, finishing with a 2:13.56 for a B-cut, and advanced to the A-final.

Men’s 200 Breast
Aleksas Savickas and Kevin Vargas finished on top of the pack, with Savickas swimming a 1:53.10 to beat the rest of the field by over a second. The Gators had four B-cut times, and had two qualify in the A-final, and three in the B-final.

Women’s 200 Fly
Amanda Ray posted the top time of the group with a 1:57.08 to win the prelim. Mabel Zavaros and Allie Piccirillo joined her in the A-final.

Men’s 200 Fly
Florida placed three of the top-five in the qualifying, led by Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero in second at 1:43.65 and Mason Laur in third at 1:44.64. Jace Crawford registered a B-cut time of 1:45.08 for fifth.
