Four Gators Earn SEC Weekly Honors
Joshua Liendo, Jonny Marshall, Bella Sims and Ana Monroy claim SEC accolades.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After the No. 3/5 swimming and diving programs secured first place finishes at the Georgia Invitational last week, Joshua Liendo, Jonny Marshall, Bella Sims and Ana Monroy received SEC weekly awards as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

Leindo was named Co-Men’s Swimmer of the Week after racking up several top-time accomplishments during the Georgia Invite. The sophomore finished first in all nine of his events (four individual and five relays), posted seven A-Cut times and recorded four top-10 times in UF program history. His 40.90 time in the 100 free ranks first nationally and his 18.61 time in the 50 free broke the Gabrielsen Natatorium record. It is the third weekly conference honor for Liendo and the sixth of his career.

Marshall earns his fourth Freshman of the Week honor of his collegiate career after recording the nation’s second-fastest time and second-fastest time in program history in the 200 back after coasting to a 1:39.59 for a first-place finish. The Ohio native posted two individual career-bests in the 100 and 200 back and finished top-five in five of his events at the Georgia invite. He swam in five relay teams and was the lead off for the 200 medley B-team that placed third after posting a 1:24.11.

On the women’s side, standout swimmer Bella Sims collected her fifth Women’s Freshman of the Week award after tallying eight first-place finishes and eight A-cut times, which all rank top-10 nationally in Florida’s win at the Georgia Invite. She broke a 15-year old school record in the 500 free after swimming a 4:32.53, to record the fastest-time nationally. The Nevada native was the lead off in the 200 Medley Relay A-team, who set a new school record with 1:34.18 and was on the 800 Free Relay A-team that set a new school record with 6:56.49. Her 400 IM time of 4:01.47 sits at No. 1 nationally and is third all-time in UF history.

Ana Monroy earned Diver of the Week after she swept the diving competition with three career-bests scores. The freshman scored a 312.80 in her platform debut, which is No. 1 nationally. Her 333.70 ranks fifth in the nation in the 1-meter and she scored a 333.39 in the 3-meter for a first-place finish. It is her third weekly award of the season and of her career.

The Gators have a week break before US Open action. The 2023 U.S. Open will take place in Greensboro, N.C., with the event set to take place November 29-December 2.
