Florida Women Cap off NCAA Championships Historical Run with Third-Place Finish

Athens, Ga. – The Florida Women concluded their historic NCAA Championship run in third place with 364 points. 11 Gators totaled 34 All-American Honors en route to three National Titles and four runner-ups. Florida’s placement marks it’s best finish in 14 years, while 364 points lands 11th-best in program history.

Bella Sims’ ended her NCAA debut with a lengthy resume of accolades. The freshman was crowned the 500 Free and 200 Free National Champion, while earning All-American Honors in her seven events. She set two individual program, pool and SEC records and was the lead off in the 800 Free Relay Team that broke UF’s, SEC’s and Georgia’s pool record on the opening night.

Four of Florida’s five relay teams merited top-five finishes, tallying 136 team points. The 800 Free Relay team of Sims, Isabel Ivey, Emma Weyant and Micayla Cronk won the program’s first National Title in the event since 1989.

Saturday Recap

The mile event kicked off Saturday finals, with Emma Weyant wrapping up her week with a fifth-place finish. The junior recorded her best NCAA finish in the event after going 15:49.51 for fifth to mark fourth in Florida’s all-time bests. Caroline Pennington dropped nearly eight seconds off her seed time to place 19th overall, while Anna Auld also dropped time for a 16:53.63 finish.

Florida’s performance during the 200 Back was nothing less of excellence. Three Gators found a spot in the final’s session, as Bella Sims and Catie Choate secured a top-eight spot following morning prelims. Sims finished third in 1:48.47 to go three-for-three on individual podium appearances. Fellow freshman teammate (Choate) snagged her first All-American Honor after finishing in eighth with a 1:53.54 time. JoJo Ramey swam her best 200 back time in over two years during prelims to earn a spot at No. 10 in all-time bests (1:52.31). The freshman swam even faster in the finals, going 1:52.02 for 11th overall and an Honorable-Mention All-American Honor.

Isabel Ivey’s impressionable collegiate career came to a close after she claimed her fifth podium finish of the week. She dropped almost a minute off her prelim time in the 100 Free to go 46.67 for third. The Gainesville native concluded her NCAA Championship run with five top-five finishes and seven All-American Honors.

In the final event of the night, the 400 Free Relay Team of Sims, Ivey, Lainy Kruger and Micayla Cronk recorded a 3:08.60 to secure second place.

Diving
Camyla Monroy represented the Gators in the Platform event. The SEC Platform Champion was one of four freshmen competing in the event out of 43 entries and finished with a prelim score of 203.45. She concludes her first season as a Gator with one All-American Honor.
