Mestre earns second-team honors from College Sports Communicators
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men’s swimmer Alfonso Mestre was tabbed to the Academic All-America men’s swimming and diving teams, as selected by the College Sports Communicators Tuesday morning.
Mestre was named to the second team after earning a 3.59 GPA in Finance. The senior is one of eight members of SEC programs to achieve the honors.
At the SEC Championships last month, Mestre secured gold in the 800 free relay and claimed bronze in the 500 free. The Pottstown, Pennsylvania native was also named SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week back in November.
The Division I team boasted a 3.85 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.87.
Florida is set for the NCAA Men’s National Championships, beginning tomorrow, March 22 and running until March 25.
