UF SB: Wallace Named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 10 Finalist

This is the first time that Wallace has been named a Top 10 finalist for the prestigious award.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Wednesday afternoon, Skylar Wallace of the Florida softball team was named a Top 10 finalist for the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. This is Wallace’s first appearance as a Top 10 finalist for the prestigious award.

The Woodstock, Ga. native has been a force at the plate for the Gators this season as she racked up numerous awards this season including being a three-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, a two-time D1Softball.com National Player of the Week and was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week once.

Over the course of the season, Wallace has posted a team-leading .456 average at the plate with 61 runs scored, 57 hits, six doubles, eight triples and 16 home runs to go along with a stellar 1.016 slugging percentage. She also has 39 walks, a .596 on base percentage and has stolen 28 bases so far this season.

The right-handed do-it-all athlete ranks among the best in the SEC as she leads the league in batting average (.492), slugging percentage (1.082), runs scored (28), RBI (22), triples (3), home runs (9) and total bases (66) in conference only play.
Wallace also ranks among the nation’s best in several statistical categories. Her overall 1.016 slugging percentage leads the country, while she ranks second overall in triples (8), third in runs per game (1.33) and on base percentage (.596), fifth in total bases (127) and fifth in walks per game (0.85).

Lauren Haeger & Kelly Barnhill are the only Gators to have won the prestigious award. Haeger earned the title in 2015 after leading Florida to the program’s second national championship and Barnhill secured the honor after having a historic season in 2017.

The Top 3 Finalists set to be released on May 17, while the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed prior to the Women’s College World Series, which is scheduled to take place June 1-9 at the Softball Capital of the World(r).
