UF SB: Wallace and Williams Selected for SEC Weekly Awards

This is both Skylar Wallace’s first SEC Player of the Week of the season and Mia Williams’ first SEC Freshman of the Week of her career.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Graduate senior Skylar Wallace and freshman Mia Williams earned SEC Player of the Week and SEC Freshman of the Week respectively by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Wallace, a graduate student shortstop from Woodstock, Ga., led the Gators to a 4-0 week with her .545 batting average over the midweek win at Florida Gulf Coast and the series sweep over No. 23 Kentucky. Wallace hit the first grand slam of her career in the run-rule victory against the Eagles. In the series finale against the Wildcats, she recorded a season-high three stolen bases, including two in one inning. For the week, Wallace registered six hits, eight runs scored, seven RBI and four walks.

Overall Wallace’s award is third this year for the Gators and the fourth of her career.

Williams, a freshman infielder from Windermere, Fla., batted .714 with five hits, six runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBI in a 4-0 week for the Gators. Williams began the week with a career-high two hits at Florida Gulf Coast. After tallying one hit in each game against No. 23 Kentucky, she is now on a career-long four-game hit streak.

Williams award gives Florida its sixth SEC Freshman of the Week accolade this season. The six awards are also the most in program history.

Next up for the Gators is a three-game series at Mississippi State this upcoming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
