UF SB: No. 14 Gators Host Rebels for Last SEC Home Series

Florida’s three-game series against Ole Miss is the last regular season home series of the 2023 season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Florida softball team is set to host Ole Miss this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for its last regular season Southeastern Conference home series of the 2023 season. UF will recognize six seniors for their contributions to the program prior to Saturday’s game.

The Gators (32-15, 8-10 SEC) enter the weekend after having fell, 5-3, to in-state rival No. 4 Florida State in midweek action, while the Rebels (27-21, 6-12 SEC) dropped its previous SEC series, 2-1, to then-ranked No. 21 Texas A&M. Ole Miss won the first game of the series 8-5, before it fell 6-3 and 13-8 to the Aggies.

UF is also looking to rebound after it suffered a series sweet to No. 3 Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. this past weekend. The Orange & Blue offense struck for 17 total runs, including 16 in the final two games, off one of the better pitching staffs in the country.

Florida’s catalyst at the plate this season has undeniably been redshirt-junior Skylar Wallace. The Woodstock, Ga. native leads the SEC in nine total offensive categories in league play this season as she ranks tops in batting average (.529), slugging percentage (1.216), runs scored (26), hits (27), RBI (22), triples (3), home runs (9), total bases (62) and stolen bases (13), while she also ranks second in SEC play in walks (16) and on base percentage (.652).

Sophomore Reagan Walsh ranks tied for seventh in RBI (15) and Kendra Falby ranks tied for fifth in stolen bases (5) in league only action.

Overall, the Gators offense ranks fourth overall in SEC only action in batting average (.268) compared to the Rebels .234 average at the plate.

Ole Miss is led by Lexie Brady (.400), Tate Whitley (.290) Jaila Lassiter (.275) and Savannah Sikes (.255) as the group holds .250 or better batting averages in conference play.

Saturday’s game will mark the final senior day of the 2023 season as six seniors in Charla Echols, Elizabeth Hightower, Kinsey Goelz, Sarah Longley, Pal Egan and Samantha Bender will be honored for their contributions to the softball program. Two weeks ago, during the Georgia series, Rylee Trlicek and Bryn Thomas were recognized during their senior day
