No. 10 Gators to Close 2022 Regular Season with Homestand Against Bears and Eagles
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 10 Florida softball is set to close the 2022 regular season with a pair of doubleheaders against Florida Gulf Coast and Mercer this Friday and Saturday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. All four games are scheduled to be streamed via SEC Network+.
The Gators (38-14) will face the Bears (15-35) and the Eagles (16-31) once each both Friday and Saturday before the team begins their preparations for the upcoming 2022 SEC Softball Tournament that will be held in Gainesville for the first time since 2005.
UF enters the weekend after it fell 2-1 to No. 3 Florida State in Tallahassee in a midweek pitchers’ duel that went down to the wire. In the game, sophomore Katie Kistler extended her hit-streak out to five games, while redshirt-junior Skylar Wallace extended her reached base safely streak to 21 games.
The Orange & Blue welcomes back former Gator and current Mercer Head Coach Lindsey Fico to KSP Stadium. Fico, a Madison, Fla. native, played in 206 games for Florida from 2003-2006 and is currently in her first year as the head coach of the Bears.
Offensively, UF continues to be led by Wallace at the plate as she sports a team-leading .391 batting average, 42 walks and 42 stolen bases. Following closely behind Wallace is freshman Kendra Falby (60-of-160), Katie Kistler (41-of-122) and Cheyenne Lindsey (54-of-162), as all three boast batting averages above .300.
In the circle, Florida’s pitching staff has posted 14 shutouts on the season and holds a 2.50 ERA as a staff. Senior Elizabeth Hightower (12-7) and freshman Lexie Delbrey (12-2) lead the team in wins, while fifth-year graduate Natalie Lugo sports a team-best 2.15 ERA with three saves.
The offense will look to put the pressure on Bears and the Eagles as their pitching staffs sport a 7.78 ERA and a 5.35 ERA respectively.
Following the conclusion of the weekend, Florida will find out its’ SEC Softball Tournament seed designation.
