Vale named Player of the Week while Shelton named Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida’s Duarte Vale was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week while Ben Shelton was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
This is the second POW honor for Vale and fourth-straight week that a Gator has been named SEC Player of the Week while Shelton picked up FOW honors for the second time this season.
These honors come following 7-0 wins last week over TCU and Florida State for the Gators.
In UF’s victory over TCU, Vale won in straight sets over Luc Fomba in the No. 1 position while he and Sam Riffice won in the No. 2 doubles position and clinched the doubles point for Florida.
Against FSU, Vale won in straight sets once again in the No. 1 position over Alex Knaff.
On the season, Vale is 11-3 in dual matches and 19-3 overall in singles play.
Shelton was 3-0 last week against the Horned Frogs and Seminoles, winning both of his doubles matches in the No.3 position with Andy Andrade and Brian Berdusco while also taking the straight-sets victory against TCU in the No. 5 spot.
Shelton is 13-1 in dual matches and 20-2 overall this season.
