Gators captain turned in an impressive weekend against Commodores, Wildcats
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida’s Duarte Vale was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Vale improved his dual match singles record to 14-3 on the year with a match-clinching victory against Vanderbilt’s George Harwell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and a two-set defeat of Kentucky’s No. 7 Liam Draxl, 6-2, 6-2 as the Gators won the SEC regular season title over the weekend.
Vale is on a nine-match winning streak in singles and has been an important piece at the No. 1 spot this year for UF.
This is the third time Vale has been awarded the POW honor by the SEC this season.
Florida has been awarded the POW honor in five of the last six weeks with Vale, along with Andy Andrade and Sam Riffice, winning the award.
The No. 1 Gators are scheduled to close out their regular season at South Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
