Gators continue to put together impressive performances
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 7 Florida (11-1, 7-0 SEC) defeated No. 19 Ole Miss (5-6, 4-2 SEC), 6-1, on Friday night at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center as the Gators won five of six singles matches, and took the doubles point, en route to another important victory in the Southeastern Conference.
Will Grant and Johannes Ingildsen made the most of their move up to No. 1 doubles while Sam Riffice and Duarte Vale took care of their contest on No. 2.
Grant and Ingildsen continued to look the part, as the duo moved to 7-0 on the year.
In singles, Ben Shelton (No. 5), Vale (No. 1) and Blaise Bicknell (No. 4) won in straight sets. Bicknell’s victory came via an important second-set tiebreaker in which he won by a tally of 11-9.
Riffice recovered from dropping the second set, 4-6, to outlasting his opponent on No. 2 for the win.
Last but not least, Josh Goodger continued his run of strong play on No. 6 to improve to 4-0 in dual matches this season.
Friday night’s victory was UF’s eighth-straight overall and fourth-straight over a top-20 opponent, all of which have been from the SEC.
Next up, Florida is scheduled to play at No. 24 Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
