Gators complete regular season undefeated in the Southeastern Conference
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 1 Florida (18-1, 12-0 SEC) defeated No. 13 South Carolina (12-8, 7-5 SEC), 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Carolina Tennis Center to complete the regular season undefeated in the Southeastern Conference.
This is the second time in three seasons that Bryan Shelton’s squad has gone undefeated in the SEC in the regular season.
The Gators used a doubles point and an important three-set comeback victory for Blaise Bicknell to close out an impressive regular season.
With wins from Josh Goodger and Duarte Vale on No. 2 and Sam Riffice and Ben Shelton on No. 3, UF was able to take its first doubles point in the last three matches.
Despite dropping the top two singles spots, Andy Andrade, Bicknell and Goodger were able to come through with good performances to win the dual match for Florida.
Bicknell (17-0) and Goodger (10-0) closed out two undefeated regular season dual match singles campaigns and were spotless overall in singles matches in the 2020-21 season, with Bicknell going 26-0 and Goodger going 16-0.
The Gators are now scheduled to be the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament which begins on April 19 in Fayetteville, Ark.
