UF MTN: Gators Men’s Tennis Claims Eight Spots in ITA’s Preseason Singles Rankings

The eight players in the singles rankings is the most among any other school on the list.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The reigning national champions Florida Gators men’s tennis team showed out on ITA’s Division I preseason singles and doubles rankings, with eight student-athletes in the top 125 of singles rankings and three doubles pairs in the top 60 of doubles rankings as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon. The entire top five singles players all come from an SEC school, as Florida leads with two players in the top five.

The Gators placed an impressive eight players in the singles rankings. Riffice went 32-7 overall in singles play last year and is coming off an appearance at the US Open, where he battled No. 18-ranked Grigor Dimitrov.

In doubles rankings, all three teams are ranked in the top 60. The pairing of Riffice and Shelton are No. 26 on the list after putting together a 10-3 overall doubles record last year, including eight wins in dual doubles. Siimar put together an impressive doubles career at Michigan, tallying a 48-15 career doubles record during his time there. Shelbayh has participated in some big tournaments over the summer, and notched a doubles finals appearance at Junior Wimbledon. He is also currently competing at the US Open Junior Championships in singles and doubles.
