Florida looks to turn their fortunes around against a formidable opponent, and collect their first ranked win of the season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis looks to turn their season’s fortunes around as they head to Austin, Texas to face ITA’s no. 3 ranked Longhorns on Saturday, February 10 at the Texas Tennis Center.
The Gators now sit at an even 3-3 record following a tough loss to the in-state rival no. 22 Seminoles on February 3, and now eye what may be their toughest matchup of the year. The Texas Longhorns are ITA’s no. 3 team in the nation, and boast the top two singles players in the nation (no. 1 Eliot Spizzirri, no. 2 Micah Braswell).
The Longhorns hold an 8-14 advantage in the all-time series with Florida. The two have matched up each of the last five seasons, with Texas leading 4-2 in that time. Notably, the two programs have matched up in the NCAA tournament twice in that span, with Texas eliminating the Gators in the semifinals en route to their 2019 national title, and Florida returning the favor by kicking the Longhorns out of the semifinals in 2021 on their way to the first national title in Florida’s program history.
Florida enters the weekend with two players tabbed to ITA’s new singles rankings, no. 82 Tanapatt Nirundorn and no. 89 Jeremy Jin. Florida’s Nate Bonetto/Aidan Kim tandem also garnered a no. 58 ranking in doubles.
The match is set to begin at 1 PM on Saturday, February 10.
