UF MTN: Florida Advances to NCAA Round of 16

Gators dominate singles play to down USF, 4-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 1-seeded Florida defeated South Florida, 4-1, on Sunday to advance to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament Round of 16.

The Gators have now made the Round of 16 in every NCAA Tournament since 2016 and have made the Round of 16 six times under head coach Bryan Shelton.

With the win over the Bulls, UF finished with a perfect 12-0 record at home this season. The Shelton-led outfit are now 57-5 at home since the 2017 season began.

After dropping the doubles point, Florida stormed back with a dominant display in singles action. The Gators won the first set on all six singles courts and the four winners won in straight sets.

Josh Goodger, Lukas Greif and Ben Shelton, who all had their matches go unfinished on Saturday against South Alabama, put together the first three victories for UF on Sunday.

Andy Andrade served as the clinching victory for Florida in both the USA and USF matches.

The Gators are now scheduled to play No. 16-seeded Illinois on May 17 at 7 p.m. ET at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.
