The nine honorees are the most for the Florida men’s tennis team in program history
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men’s tennis team rounded out its national championship season with a record-breaking academic performance as nine student-athletes were named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, as the league announced Thursday.
Between lacrosse, baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track & field, the University of Florida had an astounding 132 student-athletes named to the Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.
On the court, the Gators secured their most successful season to date, winning the program’s first national championship. Overall, Florida went 26-2 and earned its 10th regular season SEC Championship. Florida’s captains, Riffice and Vale, were each tabbed as ITA All-Americans during the 2020-21 campaign and Riffice became just the eighth player in the 21st century to earn a team and singles national championship in the same season.
To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
