Men’s Swimmers Head to Sarasota for 2020 Toyota U.S. Open
This year’s U.S. Open has adapted a new format, stretching the competition across nine regional sites across the country.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2020 Toyota U.S. Open will be filled with current and former Florida men’s swimmers during three days of competition at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Fla.

18 current and five former Gators are entered into events throughout the four long-course meter (LCM) event sessions. The annual event gives swimmers an opportunity to achieve Olympic-qualifying standards set forth by USA Swimming.

Due to COVID, USA Swimming integrated a new format for the annual meet, spreading sessions across nine different regional sites throughout the country. Results from each event site will be combined into one result report published by USA Swimming.

The 800 free will start things off on Thursday at 5 p.m. Swimmers will be right back in the water Friday morning for the second session, followed by a set of evening races later that same day. The fourth and final swimming session will start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

At last year’s U.S. Open in Atlanta, Kieran Smith (silver- 400 free), Clark Beach (bronze-200 back), Robert Finke (bronze- 1,500) and Ryan Lochte (bronze-200 IM) all made podium stops after top-three finishes. Overall, 14 former and current Gators took the water and produced 20 Olympic trials cuts, led by Smith (six) and Finke (four).
