UAB MBB Opponent Preview: Mobile/East Tennessee State


BIRMINGHAM –
 The 2020-21 UAB men’s basketball season features nine non-conference contests along with 18 Conference USA games. This week UABSports.com will preview each of UAB’s non-conference opponents for the upcoming season, with today featuring Mobile (Dec. 9) and at East Tennessee State (Dec. 12).

MOBILE QUICK FACTS:
Location: Mobile, Ala.
2019-20 Record: 13-16
2019-20 SSAC Record: 7-11, 9th
Head Coach: Darnell Archey
Record at Mobile: 16-16 / 2nd season
Career record: Same

THE SERIES:
Dec. 9 will mark the first time the Blazers and Rams have met.

MOBILE AT A GLANCE:
Mobile is an NAIA school that plays in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Head coach Darnell Archey adds six transfers to the roster and returns seven players from last year’s team. The Rams have already begun the 2020-21 season and are currently 3-0 including a victory over No. 13 LSU-Alexandria.

EAST TENNESSEE STATE QUICK FACTS:
Location: Johnson City, Tenn.
2019-20 Record: 30-4
2019-20 SoCon Record: 16-2, 1st
Head Coach: Jason Shay
Record at East Tennessee State: 0-0 / 1st season
Career record: Same

THE SERIES:
The Blazers lead the series 3-0 against East Tennessee State. The initial game was on December 15, 1984. Every game has been determined by double digits.

EAST TENNESSEE AT A GLANCE:
After losing five seniors, East Tennessee State looks to continue their success from last year with a new head coach in Jason Shay. The Buccaneers were SoCon regular season and tournament champions with a record of 30-4 and 16-2 in conference.

All UAB men’s basketball season ticket holders who completed their purchase by October 19 were able to be accommodated within the social distancing reallocation for the 2020-21 season. A limited number of season tickets remain in the upper level and can be purchased on a first come, first served basis. For those interested in season tickets, please fill out the season ticket request form or contact the UAB Ticket Office at 205-975-8221. A member of the UAB Athletics Ticket Sales and Service team will follow up with you regarding available seating options.

As a reminder, original season ticket locations from the men’s basketball priority seat allocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season.
