UF MGOLF: Gators Move into Third Place for Final Round of Palm Beach Regional

Florida shot 4-under on moving day to leap into third-place with 18 holes remaining at the NCAA Palm Beach Regional.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Florida men’s golf team coined the phrase ‘Moving Day’ and jumped into third-place in round two of the Palm Beach Regional on Tuesday.

Entering the day T5, the Gators shot 4-under (284) to leap into third-place and own a four-stroke lead as they are two back from Florida State (E) and Vanderbilt (-9). The two other advancing spots are owned by USF (+6) and College of Charleston (+10).

One more round of stroke play remains as the top five teams as well as the top individual finisher not on an advancing team will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., from May 27-June 1.

Fred Biondi (T4) led the Gators for the second straight day with a 69 (-3), marking his 10th round in the 60s and 13th under-par round this season. The All-SEC First Team selection, began the day with a birdie and highlighted his round with an eagle on 18 (par 5, 556) to go -2 through the first nine holes. Florida is 22-under combined on par 5’s at PGA National.

Cutting seven strokes off his first round, Ricky Castillo carded a 70 (-2) to jump 23 spots into T23. He sank a team-high five birdies to total a team-leading 109 on the year as the round marked his 15th under-par.

The first birdie of the day from John DuBois positioned the Gators into a tie for third with Notre Dame. He finished even (72) to sit 17th as Yuxin Lin is a stroke behind tied for 18th followed by Tyler Wilkes in T39.

Florida will tee off tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. ET paired with Vanderbilt and Florida State.
